BIO
Dr N. Amy Yewdall is a biochemist whose research sits at the intersection of biochemistry, biophysics, synthetic biology, and protein engineering. Based at the University of Canterbury, she leads work on biomolecular condensates—protein and RNA droplets that organise cellular processes and hold enormous potential for synthetic biology and sustainable chemistry.
She completed her PhD at the University of Canterbury before undertaking postdoctoral research in world‑class laboratories across Cambridge, Oxford, Eindhoven, and Nijmegen, building deep expertise in self‑assembling proteins and artificial cell systems.
Her publications span condensate physics, enzyme organisation, and protocell engineering, with her work widely cited in the fields of bionanotechnology and synthetic biology. In 2023, she was awarded a prestigious Rutherford Discovery Fellowship to advance enzyme‑enhancing condensate systems for carbon capture and sustainable molecular synthesis.
Alongside her research, Amy is an active research community member, actively contributing to scientific networks in Europe and the New Zealand chapter of Synthetic Biology Australasia.
