DoctorAndrea Delaune

My teaching is grounded in a commitment to ethical, relational, and critically reflective practice in early childhood education, with a particular emphasis on preparing future kaiako to navigate complex social, cultural, and pedagogical contexts. I contribute across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, designing and delivering courses that integrate theory, research, and practice, and align with the principles of Te Whāriki and the bicultural responsibilities of education in Aotearoa New Zealand.

I have extensive experience supervising research-based degrees, supporting students across a wide range of topics including teacher wellbeing, emotional labour, transition to school, inclusive education, and the sociocultural dimensions of early childhood practice. My supervision approach emphasises dialogue, critical inquiry, and methodological rigour, enabling students to develop confidence as emerging researchers and practitioners.

My teaching and supervision are informed by a strong commitment to social justice, equity, and culturally responsive pedagogy. I foster learning environments that encourage students to examine their own values and assumptions, engage with diverse perspectives, and develop practices that support equitable outcomes for children, whānau, and communities.
