BIO

Professor Andy Nicol has conducted far-reaching research and is a world leader in the field of fault growth. He has published a hugely significant body of international research literature focused on step-change understanding of Earth deformation processes from sand grain to plate boundary scales. His research covers a diverse array of fundamental and applied topics, and in multiple cases is changing prevailing wisdom. The global significance of this work and his outstanding influence within the international structural geology research community is reflected in his extensive network of high calibre collaborators with numerous international colleagues. He leads a large research group, including a number of post-doctoral fellows as nascent researchers, pursuing multiple nationally important research programmes. His research is highly cited and has resulted in many accolades from international peers.
