BIO
I am an interdisciplinary researcher with qualifications in Textile Science, International Business, and Mechanical Engineering. My PhD research focused on improving safety in contact sports through the design, development, and evaluation of innovative protective equipment. During my PhD at the University of Canterbury, I investigated softshell headgear for youth rugby, integrating materials science, biomechanics, laboratory impact testing, and user-centred research to better understand how protective equipment can reduce the intensity of head impacts while remaining practical and acceptable for players. This work highlighted the importance of balancing technical performance with real-world adoption.
Alongside my research, I am passionate about teaching and mentoring students in engineering and technology-related disciplines. I enjoy helping students connect theory with practice and develop the skills needed to solve complex real-world problems. My professional and personal experiences have been shaped by living, working, and travelling across five continents, and engaging with people from diverse cultural, educational, and professional backgrounds. These experiences have fostered adaptability, cultural awareness, and a global outlook that informs my approach to research, teaching, and collaboration. Today, I bring together expertise in materials, engineering, and human-centred design with an international perspective to develop practical solutions that improve safety, enhance user acceptance, and create meaningful real-world impact.
