RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research focuses on the cell biology and biophysics of fungi and oomycetes, with particular emphasis on understanding the mechanisms that drive invasive hyphal growth, cell polarity, and spore longevity in pathogenic microbes.   

  

I investigate how ion fluxes, the actin cytoskeleton and cell wall dynamics enable growth and response to environmental stress. Using a combination of live‑cell imaging, electrophysiology, microfluidics, and biophysical approaches, my work links cellular signalling with growth dynamics and mechanical force generation.   

  

A key aim of my research is to understand how these cellular processes contribute to pathogenicity, host invasion, and disease spread in agricultural and natural systems.   

  

By uncovering the fundamental principles underlying fungal and oomycete growth, my research supports advances in plant pathology, biosecurity, and the management of emerging microbial threats.
