RESEARCH INTERESTS

Brendon’s research focuses on advancing the science and engineering of earthquake resilience, with particular emphasis on:

  • Engineering seismology — characterisation of earthquake sources, path effects, and site response; development of next-generation strong ground-motion prediction models.

  • Ground-motion simulation and selection — physics-based and hybrid computational modelling, scenario development, and intensity-measure characterisation for performance-based engineering.

  • Seismic response analysis — numerical and experimental investigation of structural and geotechnical system behaviour under extreme ground shaking.

  • Seismic performance and loss estimation — integrated frameworks for risk assessment, loss modelling, and resilience-informed decision-making for buildings and infrastructure networks.

  • Seismic hazard analysis — regional and site-specific hazard modelling, including probabilistic and deterministic approaches for engineering applications.

  • Earthquake-resilience systems and modelling — multi-scale simulation of community-level impacts, infrastructure interdependencies, and recovery trajectories.
