RESEARCH INTERESTS

Briarne’s research focuses on supporting teachers to design inclusive learning environments that respond to the full range of learner variability. She is particularly interested in how teachers can intentionally design for both support and extension, ensuring all learners are challenged, included, and able to thrive.

Her work spans:

  • Universal Design for Learning (UDL) as a framework for proactively designing for diverse learner needs
  • Trauma-informed and relational approaches to behaviour, recognising behaviour as communication
  • Literacy development for learners with diverse learning profiles
  • Equity and culturally responsive pedagogies that challenge systemic barriers to participation and achievement
  • Pre-service teacher education, with a focus on developing adaptive expertise and responsive pedagogical decision-making
