    The annual awards, jointly presented by Stuff and Westpac NZ, recognises wāhine whose work makes a difference to the lives of New Zealanders. There are 10 categories, including arts and culture, public policy and young leader. The Supreme Winner is chosen from the winners of those categories. Hayward’s “relentless focus” helping New Zealand become a leader in tackling climate change stood out to the judges in what was ultimately a unanimous decision.

An award will be recommended only if the nominee is regarded by the College of Arts Research Awards and Grants Committee to be clearly meritorious. The award can only be made once every five years to any individual staff member

    I intiated and organised the first "Children's Resilience to Environmental Change" panel for the international Resilience 2011 Conference Arizona USA, opened by the Noble prize winner Elinor Ostrom, the conference is the premier resilience event. This panel was supported by UNICEF international, and included speakers from 6 nations. My you tube paper recording (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ateZ2_z0Ekw) was viewed 1300 times and all papers competitively peer reviewed.

    Organised and chaired the New Zealand Political Studies Conference, held in August 2007 at the University of Canterbury. This was the first time this national conference had been held at UC for many years and its return to UC had been at my instigation. The conference was very well attended with over 60 papers. I organised panel themes and chairs for streams, abstract review and pre and post conference events as the chief administrator of the conference on a 3 person organising committee (with my colleague Dr Therese Arseneau and an event manager).

    I represented the New Zealand Broadcasting Standards Authority and New Zealand's statutory position at the Regulatory Round-Table for Asian and Pacific Broadcast Regulators: Governments and Regulators discussion covered regulation of new technologies, social concerns and digital convergence issues - and presented a paper on BSA research (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia October 2001).

    Invited key note speaker at Land Transport New Zealand's National Symposium: 'Promoting Participation', August 2005. This national conference focused on a substantive area of applied knowledge and was attended by policy analysts, planners and public servants in transport/environmental plannning. I was invited to lead the training workshops at the symposium for all Land Transport staff (from Board members to local government staff) on methods and techniques of public particaption based on my PhD research.
