The Vice-Chancellor has responsibility for the overall leadership of the university, reporting to the University Council. Professor Cheryl de la Rey leads the senior management team and is the equivalent of the Chief Executive of the university.

The Vice-Chancellor has operational responsibility for management policy, all policies and procedures related to Health & Safety compliance, occupational health, ACC and environmental safety.
