RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research explores the intersection of technology, creativity, and performance within music and sound practices. I am particularly interested in how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and advanced vocal modelling intersect with traditional performance and studio production, expanding the ways artists can autonomously produce and engage with music.

A central focus of my work is the acoustics of vocal ensembles and the challenges of replicating human ensemble interaction through technological mediation. My doctoral research examined the autonomous production of choral recordings using advanced voice modelling, revealing the limitations of technology in capturing the nuances of collective vocal performance and the embodied knowledge inherent in ensemble singing.

I am also interested in the role of acoustics within performance and recording environments, and how spatial and sonic contexts influence artistic outcomes. Additionally, I investigate how AI and machine learning can support and augment creative workflows while maintaining artistic integrity within music production, composition, and performance.

Through practice-led research, I aim to bridge the gap between audio engineering, composition, and performance, fostering innovative approaches to music-making that embrace technological experimentation while recognising and preserving the irreplaceable qualities of human creativity. Some of my research activities include exploring sound in its fundamental context, as resonance.  This has led me to exploring resonance in spaces, electronic devices and in human reception, reinforcing the basis of my practice in sound as a primary sensory experience and resonance as a key to future technology.
