Associate ProfessorDaniel B Stouffer

As an Adjunct Fellow  in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Canterbury, my research explores the complexity of ecological systems. I am fascinated by how species interact within ecological networks and how these interactions shape biodiversity, resilience, and ecosystem functioning. To investigate these questions, I integrate tools and concepts from engineering, physics, mathematics, and statistics, using them to uncover hidden patterns in empirical ecological data and to explore their evolutionary and ecological consequences. 

My work at UC builds on a research career that has included roles as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Associate Professor, before taking up my current external appointment as a Research Group Leader at the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries in Germany.

Across all my research, I aim to build stronger links between theory and data, and to deepen our understanding of the intricate webs of interaction that sustain life on Earth.
