My research explores the ecology, behaviour, and conservation of mammals. My work focuses on the role of individual animals within ecological systems, and spans physiological, behavioural, and population ecology—often with direct applications to wildlife management and conservation biology. 

 

My career has taken me from studying Kaimanawa horses in Aotearoa to meerkats in the Kalahari, lions and giraffes in Africa, and Tasmanian devils in Australia. These diverse systems allow me to investigate social structure, maternal investment, sex‑ratio adjustment, and the ecological consequences of individual variation in behaviour.
