BIO
Gabriela is a postdoctoral researcher at Gateway Antarctica. She is a social scientist who specialises in the study of Antarctic gateway cities, management of tourism in Antarctica, governance and geopolitics of the southern polar region, and human connections with the Far South. Gabriela is currently working on Antarctic tourism research projects under the Dutch-funded Polar Tourism Research Programme (NOW) on Assessment of Impacts and Responses.
Gabriela’s Antarctic experience has led her to different professional roles, from assisting policymakers on Antarctic matters to creating strategic plans for the development of gateway cities. Gabriela is an active member of the Antarctic international research community and is one of the co-chairs of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research’s (SCAR) Tourism Action Group, as well as co-Deputy chair of the SCAR EDI.
In addition, Gabriela lectures regularly on Antarctic cruise ships and has visited Antarctica more than eighty times.
