RESEARCH INTERESTS
Geoff’s research focuses on the behaviour, measurement, and control of complex dynamic systems across engineering and biomedical applications. He is particularly interested in nonlinear dynamics, system identification, and advanced instrumentation for understanding how structures and biological systems respond to real‑world loading and motion.
His work in earthquake engineering centres on the development and optimisation of energy‑dissipation mechanisms, adaptive damping technologies, and high‑fidelity dynamic models that support performance‑based design. He also has a keen interest in large‑scale experimental testing, shake‑table simulation, and international collaborative research infrastructures that enable greater understand of the real-world application and validation of seismic protection systems. His ongoing research with Lehigh University uses the joint application of computational modelling of large buildings and the dynamic physical testing of seismic damper concepts within a hybrid cyber-physical environment.
In biomedical engineering, his research explores dynamic measurement of human movement, biomechanical signal processing, and computational modelling of orthopaedic implants. He is particularly focused on acoustic sensing, video‑based motion tracking, and gait analysis to improve implant performance and patient outcomes.
He also maintains active interests in mechanical design, structural health monitoring, building performance assessment, and data‑driven analysis of post‑event structural response, supported by collaborations with leading international research groups.
His research also involved collaboration with Antarctic field researchers, where he partners with leading researchers to provide engineering support for development of equipment to support ice drilling and remote sensing capabilities.
