BIO

My research uses quantitative methods to explore how the production and perception of sound systems are affected by both linguistic and social contexts. As such, my work crosscuts three broad areas of linguistics: (i) phonetics and phonology, (ii) speech perception, and (iii) language variation and change. At the New Zealand Institute of Language, Brain and Behaviour, I am currently working on the Marsden-funded project “A real-world example of implicit grammar learning”, which investigates New Zealanders’ knowledge of te reo Māori if they have been regularly exposed to the language throughout their lives.
