Royal Commission on the Canterbury Earthquakes appointment to write the document on historical changes in building construction requirements. 2011

Appointed by Royal Society as communicator on structural issues following Canterbury earthquakes. I led the preparation of the written document. Then, with representatives from NZSEE, SESOC, IPENZ communicated answers to frequently asked questions in an oral form which was then made available publically, including as part of the government science media relaeases. 2011.

The Institute of Structural Engineering 2009 Award for Education or Healthcare Structures. Awarded to Aurecon Engineers for the Victoria University’s Te Puni Village new high-rise student accommodation buildings in Wellington, New Zealand. I, together with others, performed testing and development of the design concept in 2006 and Aurecon engineers came to talk to us about the key concepts before they included them in their design.

Euving Au was my student and I provided the concept, inspiration and the majority of the supervision. Pettinga provided a robust background literature study, and Deam and Sadashiva provided help with the computational studies.
