Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists 2009 - based on research output in Toxicology. Regarded as a very prestigious appointment worldwide - the assessment process took 2-years. Invited to apply by the Royal College of Pathologists.

Member of the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) Academy 2005 to present - invited by the NZFSA as an acknowledged expert in food safety to membership of this advisory panel.

I am regularly invited to speak/chair sessions at national and international conferences; e.g. I gave a keynote adddress on natural food toxins and chaired a sessions on human health at Crop Science & Technology, Glasgow [2004]; gave a plenary talk on risk at the Foundation Merieux conference, Vaccines in Tomorrow's Society, Annecy, France [2003]; and gave an invited talk at the 5th Annual Food Safety Conference, Auckland and was voted the best speaker by the audience.

Invited presenter at TedXChCh conference - October 22nd, 2010. This conference is part of a series of independently organised TED events that are simultaneously 'broadcast' via You Tube (see http://tedxchch.com/2010/10/ian-shaw/). My talk was entilted 'The mystery of the shrinking alligator penis...' and covered the story of environmental estrogens, including my contribution to the field. 5,000 people tuned into my talk with approx 250 in the live audience. My talk was in the top 5 most 'tuned into' You Tube talks.

Invited to give one of 4 'Seasons of Life' public lectures, University of Auckland 2010. My lecture was on endocrine disruptors and child development. The lectures were intended to illustrate the high level research underway at Auckland University (I was invited as a PI in the NRCGD).

I was an invited speaker at the 50th anniversary conference of the International Journal of Food Science & Technology - held at Lincoln, February 17 -19, 2015

I chaired the Gravida - National Centre for growth & Developemnt annual symposium and gave a talk on science communication. There were over 100 attendees.

I was invited to chair a session, speak at and organise the Institute of Environmental Health's symposium on disaster management - 1-4 September 2014. My talk was entitled, The Christchurch earthquake - a personal perpective; it covered risk assessment in disaster situations with particular reference to chemical and microbiological hazards.

This was a talk given to the National Centre for Research in Growth & Development's annual symposium (Auckland). 10th September 2013.
