Awarded one of the ten inaugural prestigious Rutherford Discovery Fellowships (awarded 2010, commenced 2011). These fellowships are designed for "Supporting New Zealand’s most talented early- to mid-career researchers", and involved a two-stage application process (written first stage then interview). The selection of Fellows is based on three criteria: - Calibre of the applicant as a researcher. - Assessment of the proposed programme of research. - Calibre of the applicant as a research leader. Of 115 applicants, 19 were interviewed and 10 were awarded fellowships.

Also, I was one of 14 invited speakers at an OECD-sponsored conference in Tokyo, Japan (2010) to inform the 10th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biodiversity (CBD/COP10). There were over 170 attendees, but only invited speakers gave presentations.
