The Child Well-being Research Institute is delighted to announce our annual Research Symposium. This year's theme is From Insight to Impact: Advancing Child Well-being in a Changing World The Symposium features an outstanding array of high calibre UC researchers who will provide a series of presentations related to literacy, as well as other contemporary issues that influence children’s learning, development, mental health and well-being. This includes topics related to climate change, digital screen use, neurodivergence, and physical health. We are incredibly excited to advise that the Children's Commissioner, Dr Claire Achmad, will provide the opening keynote address for this popular event.

The evening will include: Leadership in sustainable innovation: An introduction to the Next Programme and Next Fest SBN Founder and CEO Rachel Brown A snapshot of sustainable innovation in Aotearoa: The Next Wave Report, with Dr Kate Prendergast, from Canterbury University. Meet the innovators: A panel of three local innovators sharing the challenges and opportunities of pioneering on sustainability. Kate Rivers | Director of Sustainability | Rangi Ruru Girls' School Ben Exton | CEO & Co-Founder | Seismic Shift Ron Park | Founder and CEO | NE Tech We anticipate that 50+ professionals, students, entrepreneurs, researchers, and leaders from across Canterbury will come together to explore how innovation and regeneration are reshaping business.

The Best APSA Conference Paper Award is given for the best presentation on undergraduate education at the past year’s APSA Annual Meeting.

Quantum meets Space and Sustainability The session is to understand what photonic and quantum technologies are and their impact on the space and sustainability sectors now and near term. We’ll consider challenges such as GPS blocking, space junk, and environmental monitoring and discuss potential quantum solutions. The session will be led by Australia's former Chief Scientist (2021-2024), Dr Cathy Foley.

Thirty students from the University of Canterbury’s Bachelor of Social and Environmental Sustainability and Political Science gathered for the Intergenerational Fairness Hopeful Futures workshop. The event, run by Think Beyond, aimed to explore intergenerational fairness in Ōtautahi Christchurch and envision a hopeful future for the city.
