After a 20+ year career in secondary school teaching, the latter part of which was spent in careers education, Kylie developed an interest in how learning experiences can support career identity. Her Ed.D. thesis, titled Constructing Women: What influences the advice provided by career development educators when advising young women interested in the construction trades, began to investigate how learning experiences in schools can support students to make informed career decisions. She is presently working as a lecturer within the PACE programme at the University of Canterbury, where she incorporates career development learning into her programme to support students who are undertaking an internship. Her research interests sit across the secondary and tertiary education sectors, including Vocational Education and Training.
