BIO

Professor Lynne Parmenter joined the University of Canterbury in 2025 and serves as Associate Dean Research (ADR) for the Faculty of Education. She brings more than three decades of international experience in peace education, intercultural education, global citizenship education, language education, and the internationalisation of education.

Her research focuses on addressing direct, structural, and cultural violence through positive peace education, with a strong emphasis on relational, culturally grounded, and community‑embedded approaches to building peaceful school environments. Lynne most recently led a major multi‑partner project in Kazakhstan, working with researchers and teachers to co‑design and implement context‑responsive peace education practices.

Her broader research has been shaped by 17 years in Japan and 12 years in Kazakhstan, examining how education systems foster intercultural understanding, inclusive citizenship, global engagement, and social cohesion across diverse cultural settings.

As ADR, Lynne contributes to strengthening the Faculty’s research culture, supporting staff capability development, and advancing strategic research priorities.
