I am interested in the many ways knowledge is exchanged in a software development context. This broad research goal includes understanding how developers acquire knowledge from resources around them, what information they need and when, how to reify and manipulate abstract concepts, which psychological processes influence this exchange of knowledge, etc.

A central aspect of my research is software documentation. How to create it? How to present it? How much is enough or too much? How to reduce the effort of documentation creators while maintaining a high quality? These questions can apply to many forms of documentation, from API reference to online tutorials to issue discussions. I am interested in both the elicitation of theoretical findings and the development of new tools to solve concrete problems.
