RESEARCH INTERESTS

I undertake a broad spectrum of research that broadly sits under the discipline of Environmental Microbiology and Microbial Ecology. I focus primarily on extremophilic microorganisms and communities and how they interact with each other and their broader physicochemical ecosystems.

This work encompasses a wide spectrum of topics including new methods for cultivating rare microorganisms, microbial genomics and function, microbial diversity, and the intersection of indigenous data sovereignty and mātauranga within microbiology, genomics and biotechnology.

My current focus includes methanotroph ecology, trace gas bioconversion, indigenous data sovereignty, and the ecology of microbial communities in geothermal environments, ’omics’ studies of geothermal ecosystems, and the sequencing and annotation of novel thermophilic bacterial and bacterial genomes.
