BIO

I am interested in using novel developing technologies and quantitative methods to understand species distributions and relationships with their environment. Specifically, I am a biologger - the practice of attaching devices to animals - to understand their behaviour at sea. My research focuses on the distribution, habitat use and foraging ecology of marine predators; specifically at-sea behaviour and its influence on the population dynamics. This research includes work on Antarctic and Subantarctic fur seals, Weddell, Ross, and crabeater seals, Adelie penguins and Emperor penguins.

I have spent a considerable amount of time doing fieldwork on Ross, Weddell, elephant and fur seals, and killer whales in Antarctica, on Marion Island and the Tristan da Cunha Island Archipelago. I was involved in the National Geographic Pristine Seas expedition to the Tristan da Cunha islands in 2017 and has worked with the Alfred Wegener Institute in Germany on expedition in Antarctica.
