Board member of the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics (2010-present). The IALP is the prestigious "world council" for speech-language pathology. The Council consists of 10 members, each representing their respective country. Members are elected to a term of office for 3 years. In addition, I am also a member of the IALP Motor Speech Disorders Committee. The committees of the organization address scientific, educational and professional issues relating to communication disorders from a broad international and multicultural perspective.

Member of the New Zealand Institute for Language Brain and Behaviour (2010-present). This is a multidisciplinary centre dedicated to the study of human language. Its researchers cover fields such as linguistics, speech production and perception, language acquisition, language disorders, special cognition, memory, brain imaging, cognitive science, bilingual education and interface technologies.

Chair of the biennial 8th Asia Pacific Conference on Speech, Language & Hearing (2011), Christchurch. Presenters from 12 countries from around the world participated in the conference.

President of the Asia Pacific Society for the Study of Speech, Language and Hearing (2009-2010). Membership of the Society covers the entire Pacific Rim. As part of this appointment I organised and chaired the 8th (2011) Asia Pacific Conference.

2008 - Fellowship Awarded by the American Speech, Language & Hearing Association (ASHA), which has a membership of over 130,000 audiologists and speech-language therapists. This distinction is bestowed on less than .0003% of the ASHA membership each year. I am one of only two people in New Zealand who have received this award.

2008 Fulbright Foundation - Awarded funding through the Fulbright Specialist scheme. These are highly competitive awards with 3-6 issued per year throughout New Zealand.
