MsOlivia Ogilvie

As a Research Fellow at the University of Canterbury, I work at the interface of food science, biotechnology, and emerging protein technologies. My research focuses on protein allergens broadly, with a core focus on celiac disease and other food allergens. I also collaborate with external partners on projects related to coeliac disease and gluten, continuing the focus of my PhD research.  

At UC, I supervise PhD students, manage research projects, and contribute to national and international collaborations through the Biomolecular Interaction Centre. My work spans lab‑based research, conceptual policy development, and applied industry partnerships.  

My pathway into science began with a Bachelor of Science and Honours in Biochemistry at UC, followed by a PhD on food allergens at University of Auckland in collaboration with Plant and Food Research. I’m passionate about using biotechnology to help shape more sustainable and resilient food systems, both in New Zealand and globally.
