The BPA is an alliance between Plant and Food Research, AgResearch, Callaghan Innovation and Scion that aims to expand New Zealand’s export opportunities by adding value to biological resources. Operations and project delivery are overseen by a general manager and science leadership group made up of senior researchers across the four research partners. Funding totaling $2.5m per annum is available until 2018 for technical and industry development. A large percentage of this will be offered as co-investment into specific business opportunities or business groups. The board's role is to provide governance advice in regards to meeting the targets set by the MBIE in relation to the funding. My particular role is to provide a university perspective as one of the targets is to engage with universities as a research provider and as a provider of researchers to work at the partner CRIs. I am the only university representative on the board.
