RESEARCH INTERESTS
Wireless communications and its applications: I have expertise in error control coding and decoding, signal detection, equalization, coded modulation, cognitive radio, multiple antenna systems, channel modelling and mmwave communications. I participate in fundamental research as well as applying to communications to a wide range of application areas including public safety, environmental monitoring and pest control.
Engineering (or STEM) education: I have conducted a number of research projects in the field of engineering or STEM education. These including looking at the use of technology to support student learning, looking at how academics can support cohort formation and peer mentoring programmes for first year students.
Diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging: I have been actively researching and leading initiatives around improving diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in undergraduate engineering education. This includes looking at how to foster inclusive learning environments, courses and cohorts.
Academic administration: Mostly recently I have been researching how to use counselling theory to improve student experience of academic administration processes. This has meant going from a deficit and problem focus to a strength and solution focus.
