RESEARCH INTERESTS
Quantitative MRI of the brain using a wide variety of techniques, and their application to development and neurodegenerative disorders. I have been strongly involved in the genesis and progress of the US$300 million NIH-funded Adolescent Brain and Cognitive Development study (ABCD), both at the University of Vermont and Yale. I have also worked with data from the Human Connectome Project (HCP), and the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI).
Specific projects that I've work on include
The relationship of brain structure and microstructure to weight gain and obesity.
Differences in brain structure and microstructure in males and females, and their relationship to mental health disorders.
Imaging finding related to mild head injuries, such as sports concussions.
The glymphatic system, the brain's waste-disposal system. Disruption of this system may be a factor in the development of neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease
