Prior to joining the University of Canterbury, I taught at Columbia University in the City of New York, where I was the director of the masters programe in Ecology, Evolution and Conservation Biology. In that role I taught our sequence of research preparation courses (Thesis Development I and II) and our Graduate Seminar in Conservation Biology. I also taught senior-level electives in Food Ecology & Globalization, and Conservation Policy, as well as an undergraduate course in Biodiversity. I developed from scratch Conservation Policy to fill a need for students to take a policy course as part of their degree, and also redeveloped the content for all other courses at Columbia. I have also taught at Sacramento State University (Environmental Science, Conservation and Society, Urban Agriculture & Aquaponics), at the University of California, Davis (Biodiversity & Agroecology, Ecological Intensification) and have given guest lectures at a number of Universities.
