This annual award gives recognition to a paper published in the Journal of Urban Affairs (during the previous year) that is considered particularly outstanding as a scholarly contribution to the field of urban affairs.

First presented in 2022, the Paper of the Year Award recognizes the outstanding scholarship of many of the papers published in the Journal. Each year, the journal will select the best paper published in Housing Policy Debate over the previous calendar year. Winners receive a certificate, commendation, and a collective prize of $400.
