Council Member of the New Zealand Concrete Society (2003-2007). The NZCS Council manages and coordinates the activities of the society, which include, but are not limited to, seminars/courses to practitioners, annual Concrete Industry conference, liaison with the industry and stakeholder, scholarships etc. The members of the Council are mostly directly appointed following the results of an AGM election on an annual basis. In a few instances they can be co-opted by the Council Member after the election. I was co-opted for the first year (2003) and then elected on an annual basis until 2007.

Invited Member (since 2003) of the fib Working Group 7.6 "Comparison of Sesmic Design Codes ". Co-convenors: Profs. F. Watanabe (Kyoto) and Prof. Park (Prof. H. Tanaka since 2004).

Member (1999-2003) of the fib (federation internationale du beton) Working Group WG 7.3/7.4 "State of the art on Sesmic Design of Prestressed Concrete Structures". Co-convenors: Profs. F. Watanabe (Kyoto) and Prof. Park (UoC). Main author of the Chapter 9 (Modeling and Analytical Methods) of the final Bulletin, used as model for the NZS3101:2005 Appendix B. When invited in 1999 for his expertise on the topic (gained during the Ph.D) was by far the youngest member of this international committee.

Invited member (since 2005) of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) 440 F Subcommitted for the preparation of the guidelines: "Seismic Strengthening of Reinforced Concrete Buidlings Using FRP Composites"

Fulbright Scholarship as "Visiting Scholar' (12 available in Italy for all faculties) to spend a reseach period of one year at the University of California, San Diego (1998-1999). The unicity and personal pride of being awarded this well-recognized fellowship derived from the fact that the candidate (at that time Ph.D. student) applied and was exceptionally selected within a list of visiting researchers with already a Ph.D. title. During the period at UCSD he developed most the sound basis of his research.
