Invited to address international conference in Auckland marking the retirement of Lord Cooke of Thorndon from the Presidency of the Court of Appeal in order to sit in the House of Lords. 1997

Invited to present a paper to the annual conference of the Court of Appeal and High Court Judges, March 1998

Invited to present paper to conference in Canberra celebrating the centenary of the first sitting of the High Court of Australia. Paper to be presented to all the High Court Justices and federal and state Chief Justices.

In December 2010 I presented an invited plenary paper at a conference in Vienna on "Medical Malpractice in Global Perspective" organised by the European Institute for Tort Law and Chicago-Kent Law School in the US. Presenters from different countries were invited to give national reports, and I was the New Zealand reporter.

In March 2008 I presented an invited paper at a conference celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Permanent Court of Appeal, held in the Banquet Hall of the Parliament Buildings in March 2008. The paper was delivered to an audience which included the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and High Court judges.

In June 2006 I presented, on invitation, a plenary paper on policy issues in defective property cases at the Emerging Issues in Tort Law international conference in London, Ontario. This was a gathering of leading torts lawyers from around the world.

I was invited to give a plenary paper at the Obligations VI conference at the University of Western Ontario in 2012, but I declined because of other commitments.

I have accepted many invitations to give papers or seminars to law schools, professional bodies and the like. Examples apart from those already mentioned include a paper to the UK Ministry of Defence in October 2011, two presentations for the Crown Law Office in 2010, a seminar for the Insurance Law Association of NZ in Auckland in 2009, and a seminar at the University of Swansea Law School in 2008.

In November 2011 I presented an invited paper to the Obligations Group at the University of Oxford. My topic was "Difficulties with Defective Buildings Litigation". I also presented a seminar to staff and students on "Compensation for Medical Injuries and the New Zealand Accident Compensation Scheme".

In December 2010 I presented an invited plenary paper on "Vicarious Liability, Personal Liability and Exemplary Damages" in Sydney at the "Torts in Commercial Law" conference organised by the University of New South Wales. The leading speaker was Lord Hoffmann from the UK Supreme Court, and the presenters were leading torts lawyers and judges invited from Australia, the US, Canada, the UK and New Zealand. My paper was published as ch 17 in "Torts in Commercial Law" (eds Degeling et al, 2011) and was shortlisted for the Sir Ian Barker Published Article Award in 2011.

I am an invited presenter at a conference in Singapore in August 2016 hosted by Singapore Management University, Singapore Academy of Law and Bond University. My stay in Singapore will be funded by the conference. Other speakers are Lord Hoffmann and Lord Neuberger

I presented (on invitation) a paper at a conference on the NZ Supreme Court’s contribution to developments in tort during its first 10 years. This was held at the University of Auckland in November 2014

I have been invited to give a Masterclass on Torts to be put on by the Legal Research Foundation in Auckland in 2016, which I am planning to do. I have done this before, in 2011.

I have been invited to give a presentation at the NZ Insurance Law Association conference in 2016. I presented an invited plenary paper to the New Zealand Insurance Law Association on “Aspects of Altimarloch” at its annual conference in Queenstown in September 2013.
