This award recognizes research related to educational practice by a researcher or research team in the Faculty. This is specifically for research about the practice of teaching and/or learning, and could be research about practice, and could be co-researched with practitioners outside the university setting.

The Teaching Excellence Award is holistic and covers all aspects of teaching and learning excellence. The sub-committee will be looking for overall evidence of teaching that is:
Sustained: the candidate maintains, over a significant timeframe, high-quality teaching practices which engage students and promote effective learning appropriate to the subject level and the background of the students.
Engaged: the candidate is proactive in professional development as a teacher, including the collection of, and reflection on, multiple sources of evidence of personal teaching effectiveness.
Influential: the candidate demonstrates leadership in teaching, having a positive influence on the teaching practice and/or the professional development of colleagues with respect to teaching and learning – either within the immediate discipline or more widely.
Distinctive: the candidate has a distinctive approach to teaching, demonstrating creativity and innovation and making a unique contribution in the role as a teacher.
Bicultural: the candidate has a culturally responsive teaching practice, supporting the needs of students in a way that is grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the bicultural nature of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Strategic: the candidate contributes to UC’s learning and teaching objectives, as reflected in the UC Strategy, the graduate attributes, and/or the faculty learning and teaching plan.
The M.A. Olympic Studies[https://www.dshs-koeln.de/english/education-career/master-of-advanced-studies/ma-olympic-studies/] has been honoured with the Presidential Award (Special Fair Play Promotion Diploma) of the International Fair Play Committee (IFPC) [Link: http://www.fairplayinternational.org] for the exemplary promotion of Olympic Values.
The M.A. Olympic Studies is an unique international part time programme, organised by the Olympic Studies Centre of the German Sport University Cologne and conducted in cooperation with five international partner universities: The Olympic Studies Centre of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain; The New Zealand Centre for Olympic Studies of the University of Canterbury, New Zealand; the Institute for Sports Sciences of Kiel University, Germany; the Olympic Studies Research Group of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil and the Department of Public Health of Aarhus University, Denmark. It is supported by the International Olympic Committee.
The programme offers a multi- and interdisciplinary approach to Olympic Studies. Its teaching contents about the diverse aspects of the Olympic Movement are substantially linked with the Olympic Values as well as sport ethical and educational considerations.
