BIO
As an Adjunct researcher in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Canterbury, my work focuses on understanding how community and metacommunity dynamics emerge and persist in freshwater and riverine ecosystems. I use a combination of field studies, controlled experiments, conceptual synthesis, statistical modelling, and collaborative research to uncover the processes shaping biodiversity patterns across spatial scales. My long‑term goal is to bridge basic and applied community ecology, improving our ability to predict freshwater biodiversity responses to human‑driven environmental change.
Alongside my role at UC, I am a Professor of Community and Numerical Ecology at São Paulo State University (UNESP) in Brazil, where I hold a tenured position in the Department of Biodiversity and continue to supervise graduate researchers and lead major ecological projects.
Across institutions and continents, my work aims to advance quantitative ecology and support more effective conservation of freshwater ecosystems.
