TEACHING & SUPERVISION SUMMARy
I currently coordinate and teach the following courses: COMS330 Communication in Context; COMS232 Risk and Crisis Communication; and COMS231 Digital Media Production. I also teach into: COMS105 Public Communication; PACS111 Pacific Peoples and Societies; PACS211 The Transnational Pacific; PACS311 Pacific Cultures and Digital Innovation; BSNS201 Business and Culture; PSYC341 Environmental Psychology; and DRRE403 Disaster Risk and Resilience Applications.
I have previously taught courses on journalism ethics, news reporting, news production, feature writing and community storytelling, and, with my colleagues Prof Tom Wilson and Assoc Prof Erik Brogt, built UC’s Journalism and Master in Disaster Risk and Resilience programmes’ annual joint disaster exercise, for which we won the International Association of Emergency Managers 2015 Oceania Technology & Innovation Award & UC’s inaugural Teaching Innovation Award.
I am happy to speak with students about study options in the BC. For prospective graduate students, I am currently accepting proposals from graduate students only where research aligns with my research interests.
