The Matapopore Charitable Trust has been established by Te Ngāi Tūāhuriri Rūnanga for the provision of cultural advice on Ngāi Tūāhuriri / Ngāi Tahu values, narratives and aspirations for the anchor projects and any other projects associated with the regeneration of Ōtautahi / Christchurch.

The primary objective of Freshwater Advisory Group is to: Provide strategic input into the establishment of a tribal position and framework for Ngāi Tahu rights and interests in freshwater. Meeting held to discuss actions to be taken, timeframes for actions to be completed by, engagement with Papatipu Runanga and aspirations/expected outcomes.

Te Maire was invited to speak at this event but was unable to attend due to other commitments. Walk for the Planet - 7 Rivers, 7 Weeks is a 7 week effort to draw attention to the ecological crisis facing our Canterbury rivers by visiting various rivers and having events to engage community in relating with and discussing the rivers; thinking about the challenges and talking about what we are doing together and with the river(s) to address these challenges.

A gathering aimed at reaching out beyond the Te Hono alumni to share ideas more deeply and further build an appetite for action. The day includes industry speakers, government leaders and interactive forums. The event is a chance to gather, listen, discuss and reflect on our goal for the New Zealand primary sector – driving our economy to prosperity with an economic, environmental and social lens.

The Canterbury Children’s Team’s Local Governance Group is comprised of key representatives from the local community, government agencies, non-government organisations and iwi. This group of community leaders ensures the Children’s Team Director has the resources necessary to address the needs of the vulnerable children and their family/whānau across the local community.

NTRC postgraduate student Matt Scobie presenting: Indigenising the concept and process of accountability. Abstract: Accountability is best understood as a concept driven by key principles that frame the way individuals and organisations engage with one another within certain contexts, rather than a definable word to be applied to any situation. However, accountability is not an end in itself, it is a means to achieve other ends such as securing rights and resources. In this case, indigenising accountability refers to exploring how indigenous knowledge and values can and have been included in understandings and practices of accountability. I believe that this understanding can be used in struggles for self-determination and improved social, environmental, economic and cultural outcomes. The research questions for this kaupapa set out to explore understandings and practices of accountability within Ngāi Tahu and theorise the relationship between context and accountability and how this could change. In exploring all of this, I hope to work with participants to imagine what an indigenised accountability might look like.

Meeting held to develop a paper on fresh water property rights and to discuss the Crown's position on fresh water.

The Northern Boundary Negotiation Team meets to provide strategic guidance on the development of a negotiation strategy to the Strategy and Influence Team of the Office of Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu. The objective is that by Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu engaging with Ngati Toa and Rangitane mutual agreements will try to be reached on the Canterbury New Space Aquaculture Agreement, the allocation of Marlborough aquaculture assets and the Fisheries Coastline Agreement.

Unveiling of the Canterbury Earthquake National Memorial, providing those who lost a family member or friend with a dedicated place to remember and reflect.

A workshop held where a series of presenters deliver presentations in regards to Ngāi Tahu history, Ngāi Tahu values and approaches, settlement and post settlement provocations. Activities are designed to broaden rangatahi knowledge and interest in Ngāi Tahu history. On completing the experience rangatahi will have a greater understanding of: Whanaungatanga and hapū identity, Ngāi Tahu identity, tikanga, dialect, waiata and takiwā and develop further opportunities to engage with whānau, hapū and iwi
