The SIGCSE Award for Outstanding Contribution to Computer Science Education honors an individual or group in recognition of a significant contribution to computer science education. The contribution may take many forms, such as: curriculum design, innovating teaching methods, textbook authorship, development of new teaching tools, or any of a number of other significant contributions to computer science education. In 2006 I was awarded an Erskine fellowship to visit universities in China, Sweden, USA and Canada. The original intention was to develop work in computer music research, but there was so much interest in my CS education work that I subsequently changed to that as my main area of research.

2009 NSF BPC meeting (Washington, DC), Keynote speaker. Invited to give keynote presentation to the "Broadening Participation in Computing" initiative of the US National Science Foundation.

2009 CAS national meeting (Birmingham, UK), Keynote speaker for "Computing at School" conference

2009 Unplugged conference at Korea University. This one-day local conference had several researchers reporting on the use of the "Unplugged" ideas in Korea, and I was asked to be the keynote speaker for the conference.

Invited speaker at (US) National Academies workshop on "Computational thinking for everyone" (2009): Invited to speak at this workshop based on my work on Computer Science education, relating it to the general issue of Computational Thinking (which is a hot topic in education in the US).

Invited to submit and present a paper on Computer Science education in NZ schools at the ACE 2010 conference (2010), which I in turn invited Peter Andreae and Lynn Lambert to contribute.
