My research covers a wide range of topics (recent topics include replications, job insecurity, the Eurovision Song Contest, trade policy preferences, football, terrorism, war and happiness). In my papers I typically analyze interesting datasets using econometric methods.

Research interests range across the subject areas of theoretical psychology, research methodology, educational theory and science studies. Work in these areas are characterized and held together by a commitment to a scientific realist view of science. Recent research has tended to focus on the methodological foundations of both quantitative and qualitative research methods, and theory construction strategies in the behavioural sciences.

Professor Reed received his PhD from Northwestern University (USA) in 1984 under the supervision of Dale Mortensen (Nobel Prize Economics, 2010). He has taught at Texas A&M University and the University of Oklahoma in the US before coming to the University of Canterbury in 2006. He is the Editor of the Journal of Comments and Replications in Economics, and founder and organizer of the website The Replication Network.
