Research interests are Early Music (especially 16th- and 17th-century French music and music for lute and related instruments), European folk music, and the philosophy and political economy of music. Performance on lute and theorbo, particularly continuo. Background includes extended periods in University management as Head of School and Dean and Pro-Vice Chancellor of Arts.
