RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research focuses on molecular genetics, epigenetics, and developmental biology, with a strong emphasis on how early‑life environmental exposures influence gene regulation and long‑term health outcomes.   

  

I investigate how prenatal exposure to drugs and environmental stressors alters gene expression, epigenomic regulation, the microbiome, metabolome and neurodevelopmental pathways.   

  

Using genomic and transcriptomic approaches, I examine molecular mechanisms underlying developmental plasticity and intergenerational effects.   

  

A key component of my work involves the use of model organisms to experimentally link environmental exposure with changes in DNA methylation, chromatin structure, and developmental gene networks.   

  

My research integrates functional genomics, bioinformatics, and experimental biology to identify biological pathways that connect early developmental environments to later‑life phenotypes.   

 

I also integrate functional genomics with applied physiology to identify molecular pathways relevant to performance, rehabilitation, metabolic regulation, and healthy ageing.   

 

My research explores how genomic and epigenomic markers can serve as indicators of muscle adaptability, informing interventions that support public health, clinical practice, and elite sport. 

  

This work has important implications for human health, maternal wellbeing, and evidence‑based public health policy.
