Elected fellow of the Reuters Institute, University of Oxford, April - May 2010, to conduct blue-skies research on the ethics of interpretation within journalism. This is one of a handful of elite research institutes globally that connects the practice of journalism at its highest levels with critical scholarship. Of the 27 international fellows elected to date to research within the Institute's goals, most have been leading research professors or journalists at the top of their careers.

Invited to give a plenary address at conference on information warfare in Canberra, 25-26 Nov 2010, to be attended by members of military, news media and academia. Invitation stated: 'Your expertise on the role and impact of new media on the reporting of contemporary conflict would considerably enrich debate at the conference around questions of where the future of war reporting lies and how this will effect the efforts of militaries and governments to shape the news in their favour.'
