RESEARCH INTERESTS
The Mind Control Lab (MCL) is a psychological science-led research group dedicated to investigating and decoding the mysteries of the human mind — specifically as it relates to directing, training, and using it to achieve the success we desire in our professional and personal lives.
Research in the lab can be grouped into three broad themes:
❶. How Does the Mind Control?
↳ This first line of research is focused on investigating and understanding the mind’s profound influence in determining whether or not we achieve the success we desire in our professional and personal lives, with a particular focus on the mental systems (e.g., thoughts, beliefs, and mindsets) that implicitly drive perceptions, expectations, attributions, and goals, among others.
❷. How Is the Mind Controlled by Outside Factors?
↳ The second line concentrates on the role of deception and influence — when and how these unseen forces of the mind are hijacked and redirected by Big Tech, AI, cybercriminals, media, and other influences to compel us to click, buy, subscribe, scroll, and otherwise derail us from our objectives, leaving us frustrated and unable to focus on what we truly want.
❸.How Can the Mind Be Controlled and Changed?
↳ The third line focuses on understanding how minds can be purposefully (and ethically) changed through intervention to improve important outcomes (e.g., health, psychological thriving, and high performance) using a range of novel methods such as advertisements, apps, social media, digital humans, smartphones, immersive VR/MR/AR interfaces, and even robots, to name a few.
The lab pursues these three intertwined lines of research with the dual aims of advancing our understanding of the mind broadly and providing new insights into how we might take control and make better use of this extraordinary and invisible force — to exceed our aspirations and succeed in todays volatile and uncertain world.
