TEACHING & SUPERVISION SUMMARy

Dr Emma Maurice brings over 13 years of teaching and learning support experience across tertiary education, with a strong commitment to student success and culturally responsive pedagogy. Her teaching philosophy centers on creating inclusive, evidence-based learning environments that enable all students, particularly Māori, Pacific, and neurodivergent learners, to achieve their academic potential.

Emma has extensive experience designing and delivering large-scale online courses for 150-300+ students in Māori and Indigenous Studies programmes at the University of Canterbury, where she spent eight years developing curriculum and managing course delivery. She has expertise in Moodle-based learning design and has built entire courses from the ground up, including Lincoln University's Introduction to Māori Culture and Society.

Emma also co-supervises PhD students and regularly supports postgraduate researchers through thesis writing, research design, and academic publishing processes. Her teaching is informed by her own research in Indigenous philosophy and her commitment to decolonising educational practice, ensuring that learning support is both academically rigorous and culturally affirming.
