Fulbright Scholarships Advisor for Cognition Trust

Membership of Cognition Trust Advisory Group and Thinktank (2009-2011). This has included being invited to participate in two day Symposia in Auckland (2009) and Wellington (2010). As further result of this participation I was invited as a participant in the Cognition research development project of 2010.

Member of the Academic Board, University of Canterbury (2006-present). Research activity is expected to comprise approximately 40% of each staff member's work and therefore of the university as a whole. The Academic Board regulates the work of all faculties and departments, co-ordinates the work sub-committees, such as the Research Committee and is responsible for advising the University Council on all academic matters, including research. Each College elects a number of representatives onto the Academic Board. My elections (twice) are an indication of my peers' esteem of my own contributions to research and scholarship and of my understanding of strategic priorities for our College and the University as a whole.

Member of the organising committee of the NZARE (New Zealand Association for Research in Education) conference hosted by the University of Canterbury in 2007.

International Association of Theatre and Drama in Education (IDEA)

Invited international partner in bid to EU for 2013 Conference in Ostrava, Czech Republic. This invitation came in 2011 and the bid is in process. Invitation made on base of previous work in Czech Republic and international role in developing Arts-Based Research. It is expected I will give a keynote address and lead a strand of research and experimentation.

Invitation to give a keynote address and lead a workshop in the Shifting Margins, Shifting Centres: Negotiating Difference in Education in the 21st Century Conference at the London Institute of Education. (2009). The Conference was an international one involving development workers particularly in NGOs. My address was invited to challenge development frameworks from a postcolonial perspective.

Invited Master Artist by Centre for Drama Education of Bosnia and Hertzegovina for its 8th International Theatre Conference (2006): The Power of Drama. This conference was planned as a catalyst for drawing together creative energies to aid the process of post-war social healing. The invitation to participate was followed by an invitation to run a workshop with L. McCammon of Arizona University, known for her current research in the US of ‘border theory', resulted in a public workshop and paper.

Invited Keynote Presentation at 2010 Drama New Zealand Conference. This is the second keynote I have been asked to present at a national Conference of Drama New Zealand. The invitations come from the association's belief that I will use my seminal research about theatre and applied drama in New Zealand to forge a platform for critical reflection by other academics in education and classroom teachers.
