As chair of the committee, make sure committee meeting is quick and fair, making a decision on whether the PhD should be awarded or not, be the one who officially brings the message to the candidate, and fill out the official paperwork which is brought to the department secretary.

Member of the Programming Committee for The 13th European Congress of Work and Organizational Psychology, May 9-13, 2007, (2006-2007). As one of five local members of this committee I was in charge of call for abstracts, recruiting keynote speakers and inviting researchers to hold symposia, recruiting abstract reviewers, notification, program timetabling, recruiting session chairs, updating program and getting the program printed. I was also liason between the programming committee and the professional organizers, with access to programming database etc.
