Engagement Australia is a university alliance designed to lead and facilitate the development of best practice university-community engagement in Australia, and other associated international networks. EA provides a of professional development and research activities focused on building interactive networks, partnerships and other relationships within and between universities, business, industry, government and community-based organisations.
As a Director on the Board, I supported the overall strategic vision and activities of the alliance through a range of governance activities, including organising the annual research and networking conference.

Appointed by Commissioner of Education to serve on workgroup to examine and critique research on reading and literacy, and teacher professional development in order to design a statewide approach to literacy PLD for the State of Alaska.

Keynote Presentation, Third International Conference of the CIVITAS East Russia Partnership, Khabarovsk, Russia (2007). Invited by conference organizers to provide the keynote presentation, Structured Academic Controversy: Classroom practices that support civic learning. Attendees were government education officials, educational NGO sponsors, teacher education faculty and university researchers, and classroom teachers.

Keynote Speaker, UAA Symposium on the Engaged University (2006). Selected by symposium coordinating committee to present the keynote address for the awards presentation banquet. I was selected to represent and highlight the university's emphasis on community engaged research and scholarship.
EVENT PARTICIPATION
Keynote address, Revitalizing the Civic Mission of Schools in Alaska, presented at the Educating on Law and Democracy Conference (2005). Opening session of 2-day state-wide conference on civic education. Audience members included education researchers, school board members, lawyers, judges, teachers, and staff from the State Department of Education.

Invited Panel presentation for the Trust for Insuring Educators Annual Conference, Anchorage AK (2007). Presentation titled, 'Teacher Retention: An Alaskan Perspective'. Invited by national conference organizers to provide an Alaska perspective as part of the 4 person panel presentation of national speakers.
