BIO
Dr Mairin Taylor (She/ Her, Tangata tiriti) joined UC’s School of Health Sciences as a lecturer in the counselling programme at the start of 2019. Prior to this, she worked as a research specialist in Okinawa, Japan and before this ran her own practice for a number of years as a clinical psychologist in Ōtautahi Christchurch. Mairin has specialised in therapeutic practice within the threads of neurodiversity (ADHD, autism) and trauma for over 15 years. She is currently engaged in mātauranga Māori integrated mindfulness research in partnership with a team of incredible Ngāi Tahu researchers, Māori movement experts and talented research students (www.mindkiwi.org.nz). Mairin is now and adjunct senior fellow with the Faculty of Health. She leads her own practice at LightBox Psychology, specialising in neurodiversity, wellbeing and performance: www.lightboxpsychology.co.nz. Mairin's parents and grandparents were raised in India, China and Fiji; the cross-cultural influence of which informs her worldview and therapeutic and research practices.
