RESEARCH INTERESTS

As a result of Sue's thesis work she continues to be interested in how primary pre- service teachers plan mathematics lessons during practicum.  Specific planning practices include, learning about practicum settings, learning maths and curriculum content, selecting tasks and representations for mathematics lessons, and choosing assessment practices. An additional  practice is considering learners when making planning decisions. Sue is also interested in how throughout a planning process pre-service teachers pedagogically reason, particiulalry how all planning processes are connected to create lessons, how  pre-service teachers use visualisation and rehearsals to make decisions when planning mathematics lessons.

Sue used an intepretive case study methodology with intereviews and audio recorded "think aloud" episode to collect data. The "think aloud" method was a unique way to gather data from pre-service teachers as they planned during practicum, and  was acknowledged as a valuable way to collect data from pre-service teachers as they engaged in thoughtful activity during practicum. Sue is keen to explore this method  further.
