Curriculum Exemplars for Special Needs Project.
    1 Jan 2007 - 1 Jan 2009
Member of the Advisory Committee for the Curriculum Exemplars for Special Needs Project. I was invited by Dr Missy Morton to be a member of this committee which met regularly from 2007-2008 and provided feedback and critique on the development of the exemplars. This project, which was commissioned by the Ministry of Education, focused on teachers working with students described as working long term at Level 1 in the New Zealand curriculum. The Exemplars project pioneered the use of narrative assessment for children and young people with special education needs, particularly those with high and very high needs for support to access the curriculum; the project also included the development of a guide for teachers. This project has had significant impact both practically and in terms of research findings about how to support this group of students and their teachers. The project resulted in the development of the website which is publically available at http://www.inclusive.org.nz/throughdifferenteyes.
